The Results of Some Internet Exploration

Hello everyone, a few new blog related things I’ve discovered the past few days. If you have a blog yourself, a few of these may be of particular interest to you.

1. I was skimming my RSS feed from the (almost) always interesting Social Media Today site and stumbled across this post on syndicating your personal brand. The author points out a couple cool tips for bloggers to get your work out to even more people. The first of which is syndicating your blog on your Facebook profile. I wouldn’t recommend displaying full posts because most people have enough junk on their profile’s as is, but a box in your sidebar with the title, image, and first sentence of your post seems like a good way to let people know what you’ve been up to without them having to go to your blog itself. I’m willing to bet that the vast majority of college kids aren’t using an RSS reader to follow blogs they like, but they do check their friends’ Facebook pages. Just search for an application called “Flog Blog” and it’s pretty easy to set up, all you have to do is enter the URL of your blog’s feed.

You can also do the same thing on MySpace. Just search for “RSS Reader” in the MySpace Apps section. This one took me a bit longer to figure out, but I eventually got it working. I decided to show a couple full posts on my MySpace because it’s in a box with a scroll bar.

2. If you don’t like actually having to come to this page and don’t have an RSS reader you can now just plug your email address into the box at the right and it’ll sign you up to get new DH Is Good posts emailed to you as soon as I post them.

3. Along with that, if you follow me on Twitter I’ve set it up to tweet a link every time I make a new post as well. Another cool thing I learned is that, for those of us out there who use Gmail and have a iGoogle page, you can now view and update your Twitter account from your iGoogle. To go even further, you can set it so your Twitter account updates your Facebook status, so you don’t have to do both. Which is good, because I don’t have enough followers on Twitter to justify me updating it all that frequently. Hopefully you’ll be able you do the same thing with MySpace soon enough.

4. You may have noticed that I’ve changed the logo/header once or twice over the past few days. I may change it a couple more times until I find something that I really like. Feel free to leave comments if you really like or hate whatever happens to be up there at the time.

5. Spoke to a friend of mine who happens to be the editor of the lifestyle section of a certain local collegiate newspaper a few days ago and discussed the possibility of me potentially writing some restaurant / movie reviews for them this year. I’ll update you all once I have a more concrete idea of when / if this is going to happen. It would be kind of cool to be back in print for the first time since high school.

6. Lastly, a notable local restaurant, which has been hosting a series of guest chefs to cook alongside their own awesome chef, will host a certain Atlanta based chef, who was recently runner-up on a popular cable cooking competition, on August 31st. It’s a 12-course meal for $100 with an optional wine pairing for $50. $100 is a lot, but for 12-courses with chefs of this caliber its actually a pretty good deal. I’d love to go and would be willing to pony up the money, but I’m not sure that any of my friends have the money to go or would be willing to spend it if they do. However, if you’re somebody I at least kind of know, and would be interested in checking out this awesome meal, get in touch with me somehow and we can talk about maybe trying to get in on this.
